Sealogis Freight Belgium & World Air Logistics Team Up to Move 2 Special Locomotives
Sealogis Freight Forwarding Belgium, in close cooperation with our fellow WCA Projects member World Air Logistics Co. Ltd Thailand was nominated to move/ship two HEAVY LIFT TECHNICAL RAIL LOCOMOTIVES from deep in France (600 KM from port of Antwerp) to Laem Chabang, Thailand.
The pad from take-off to a successful shipment was full of complex obstacles subject to engineered solutions.
The technical locomotives of high value had following dimensions:
UCI UNIT: LENGTH 23.46 METER, WIDTH 2.88 METER, AND HEIGHT 4.173 METER - 70.50 METRIC TONS
UMI UNIT: LENGTH 18.746, METER WIDTH 2.978, METER, AND HEIGHT 4.075 METER – 46 METRIC TONS
The very first challenge was to move these rail cars to the port of Antwerp. It was a race against time to obtain road permits from each French area subject to design of the trajectory, bridge, and railroad calculations. Under some bridges only a free space of 5CM was available. For the biggest UCI unit, we need to obtain permits for an entire highway to be blocked/prohibited for traffic.
Also, the ocean freight solution needed design and seeking solutions due to the extreme height of 4.173M. The ocean carrier needed to ship a unique MAFI lowbed trailer to Antwerp specifically fitting the vessel exclusively for this mission. The angle whilst rolling the trailer on board could potentially be a problem.
The entire mission was accomplished successfully thanks to months of preparation, meetings with all parties involved, on-site visits and of course inspiration by our expertise and experience with heavy lift and out of gauge cargo.
